Planner
The higher ranking the manager, the further he has to see. He has to be able to imagine the future and work towards it. To do so, he has to establish goals for the employees to achieve.

Provider
A manager has to be the provider to all the information and materials which his teams needs for a project. He, as the leader of the team has the authority and influence to acquire things which can only be done by him.

Protector
The manager, as the leader of the team should be there to protect the team against any potential scenarios or even short term excitements which might deflect the team from important issues.
